Welcome to Troop 331!
In our Scout-led troop, the Scouts are responsible for planning and running the weekly meetings, planning activities and trips, and taking an active part in community service. Oh, and did we mention, keeping this website up to date?
Mission Statement:
- “Scouts BSA Troops 331 is a Combined, Co-ed Scout-led troop in Holmdel NJ. Our goals are to develop Scouting skills, to foster social relationships among the Scouts, to create an environment in which Scouts can acquire leadership, organizational, and other skills, and to serve our community and the less fortunate. The Troop will accomplish these goals in a manner that is both enjoyable for the Scouts and true to the Scout Oath and Scout Law.”
Founded on November 1, 1966, Troop 331 has been active for over 50 years. In the last few years alone, over 50 of our scouts earned the rank of Eagle! Nationally about 2% of all scouts earn the rank of Eagle annually. Our troop is extremely proud to be above the national average. Mr. Frank Dargue and Mr. James Cox were our founding Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster, respectively. Our current Scoutmaster is Mr. Pete Asch. Our Troop is chartered by the Holmdel Community United Church of Christ. The Troop meets at the Church at 40 Main Street in Holmdel, every Tuesday night from 7:30PM to 9PM. We are very active within the community and participate in many service projects such as food drives, Bridges Clothing Drives, helping with Bayonet Farm maintenance, Order of the Arrow (OA) activities, and local Beach Sweeps. We also participate as part of the community in Memorial Day Services and Scouting Sundays. Over the course of the year, the scouts plan and/or participate in many trips, training courses, activities, and, of course, Merit Badge sessions. Some recent examples include:
- Camping: Fall Camporee, Winterburg, Forestburg Scout Reservation and even Bayonet Farm here in Holmdel. The Troop has a goal to offer 20 nights of camping per year. We have run a second week of summer camp for over the last decade.
- Trips: Camp Barrett, Tour of the Naval Academy and Navy Game, National Constitution Center, Biking, Hiking, White Water Rafting, Philmont, National Jamboree, NJ State Police Camporee, Adirondack Xtreme rope course
- Activities: Klondike Derby, Holiday Party, End of School Year Picnic at Holmdel Park, Courts of Honor, Golden and Silver Skillet Cooking Competitions
- Training: Patrol Leader Council Training and all of the Council run training like Patrol Leader Skills and NYLT.
If you think you would enjoy having fun, camping, cool experiences outdoors, and the great sense of accomplishment you get from completing Merit Badges and earning rank advancements, please consider joining Troop 331!
