“Shadows of 1864” Camporee Sept 26-28 - Gettysburg, PA

Posted on Jun 8 2025 - 4:17pm
The PLC endorsed a fantastic sounding trip to visit the battlefields at Gettysburg as part of the Cradle of Liberty Council’s camporee September 26-28.  This aligns with feedback we;ve received from the scouts on wanting more unusual trips and a desire from many of our scouts to see Gettysburg.  If you would like to attend the camporee please fill out this form ASAP.  https://forms.gle/emk7RumdRVxqk2928 Registration closes June 30!

Open to all adults and registered scouters - this sounds like an amazing event and I for one am looking forward to it!

The “Shadows of 1864” camporee is based on the Union Army’s desperate need for soldiers following the Battle of Gettysburg. In the spring of 1864, they launched a recruitment campaign, which serves as the backdrop for our theme. Scouts BSA and Older Scouts: Participants will be mustered into the Union Army and formed into Companies, engaging in hands-on activities and inter-unit competitions. Stations will cover various aspects of Civil War soldiering, including Cavalry, Medical, Music, Cannon Demonstration, Encampment Organization, 1860s Games, and Drill Instructions.

Update - Help Needed for Color Guard – Saturday, June 21st

Posted on Jun 4 2025 - 3:16pm

Our Chartering Organization, the church, has requested our Troop to provide a formal Color Guard to open a special ceremony honoring two early Holmdel veterans, James Walling and Stout Holmes, buried in the cemetery. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 21st at 11 AM (lasting about an hour). Refreshments will be provided afterward, and participation will count as Community Service. ✅ We need at least four Scouts – more are even better! ✅ We still need a Scout Leader and a Female Adult Leader for the event. ✅ Scouts signed up so far: Avi Gupta, Sidney. Please volunteer if you can to help honor these veterans!
